The situation: Last September Revolution Books and other tenants of the Telegraph Channing Mall (owned by the city of Berkeley) appeared in front of the Berkeley City Council meeting demanding urgently needed rent relief. The tenants pointed out the poor conditions in the Mall, the many long term vacancies, and the fact that the city leases had mandated large rent increases during some of the worst economic conditions on Telegraph Avenue in recent history.

Berkeley's Mayor Tom Bates then instructed the City Manager's Office to meet with the tenants regarding rent reduction --But now, eight months later, the city still has not followed through with any rent relief.
