Justice for Trayvon Martin – and the Revolution We Need

A Report Back from Sanford, Florida with Joey Johnson

You are invited to a conversation with Joey Johnson after his return from the May 2012 BAsics Bus Tour.  Come hear Joey’s report about his experiences going out among the people all along the way from Georgia to Florida. Sanford, Florida is the small Anywhere, USA town where 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was murdered.  One day in America a young Black teenager goes to the store for candy and never comes home – because a vigilante deemed a Black kid in a hoodie as “suspicious.”   Whose heart did not ache with outrage and anguish when you read about the racist killing of Trayvon Martin?  And who does not yearn for a day when such injustices are no more?
In the days following Trayvon Martin’s murder, Joey Johnson went to Florida to be with the people rising in outrage, demanding justice.  Joey was in Sanford as thousands took to the streets demanding JUSTICE FOR TRAYVON MARTIN.  Then in May, Joey joined the BAsics Bus Tour as it rolled from Atlanta back down to Sanford, spreading this call from revolutionary leader Bob Avakian:
"No more generations of our youth, here and all around the world, whose life is over, whose fate has been sealed, who have been condemned to an early death or a life of misery and brutality, whom the system has destined for oppression and oblivion even before they are born. I say no more of that."

There are new things being born – a spirit of resistance, a movement for revolution. Do not get pulled down by the undertow that insists we have no way out.  We do.  Come hear Joey Johnson’s report-back and stories from Sanford, and support his work.

If you’d have supported the activists of Mississippi Freedom Summer and the Freedom Rides in the 60’s, you’ll want to hear about, stand with and support the BAsics Bus Tour today.
This program is co-sponsored by the Social Justice Committee of the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists and Revolution Books, as a benefit for Joey Johnson’s travels to Florida and Georgia.
